2011 CSKA Invitational Tournament

Mark your calendars now for the 2011 CSKA Invitational Tournament. As always, the CSKA is hosting a day of kata, kumite and team kata competitions for both juniors and adults. It's an action-packed day with great competitors and we always get kudos for the efficiency of the tournament - Sensei Hanratty and Miss Julie keep everything running smoothly.

The action begins at 9 am on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at our usual spot, the Midsun Community Centre. The Tournament Package, which includes registration forms, is now available on the CSKA website.

AJKA Camp Wrap-up

The AJKA's Camp Shotokan finished on August 15th, 2010. Karateka from around the world participated, including Germany, Hungary, Australia, USA and Canada. Sensei Hanratty instructed again this year; Julie Hanratty (1st Dan) and Gary O'Connor (2nd Dan) from the CSKA Honbu club attended the camp.  Four days of training with world-class instructors were capped off by a great tournament!

If you haven't been to the Carlsbad camp, it's an intense four days of training but in between you can visit the beach or explore the town. Many great restaurants and shops to explore and everyone has a great time. Consider coming out next year... in the meantime,  check out this year's photos on Facebook.

Carlsbad Camp Starts in a Month!

This summer's Camp Shotokan starts August 11th, 2010. CSKA's chief instructor, Sensei John Hanratty, is attending and instructing again. This is a fantastic camp with something for everyone: instructor training, training for Dan Ranks and Kyu Ranks & Dan Grading, "Karate Kids" camp, and for those accompanying the participants - a great beach to relax on!

Sensei Hanratty will be beginning an instructor's course on Saturday, June 19th.

Sensei Otis Clinic Postponed

Unfortunately, we will be postponing the clinic with Sensei Otis. Due to a family emergency, he is unable to join us this week. We wish him well, and look forward to seeing him at the AJKA camp in August. We will reschedule the clinic - stay tuned for details!
